Vaccination of All Munro College Students
Dear Parents/Guardians,
The Ministry of Health and Wellness and the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information are collaborating to facilitate an island wide vaccination blitz, which commenced on Saturday, August 21, 2021. Kindly see the attached schedule detailing the specific locations/sites that will be used to facilitate the vaccination of all-school aged secondary students. (This was previously sent to all students and parents). Parents are encouraged to make use of the opportunity to have their son vaccinated at the centre nearest to their place of residence.
In light of the announcement by Prime Minister, The Honourable Andrew Holness, regarding the ‘No Movement Days’ (Sunday 22, Monday 23, Tuesday 24, 2021) and the anticipated challenges likely to be experienced commuting to and from the vaccination sites, the schools in the region are working together to assist re the provision of transportation. Arrangements have therefore been made for our school bus to be used to assist students and parents/guardians to get to the designated vaccination centres as detailed in the attached document. In addition, we have partnered with Hampton and other schools to facilitate pickup of students along specific routes.
According to information from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information, only students who are fully vaccinated will be permitted to return to face-to-face classes in October 2021. The Government’s strategy to vaccinate school-aged students between 12 to 18 years of age is therefore expected to set the foundation for a return to face-to-face classes in the upcoming academic year. As such, we encourage you to have your son vaccinated during this targeted vaccination blitz, both in anticipation of a return to face-to-face classes and the reopening of the Boarding School.
I understand the anxiety being experienced by some parents. Nevertheless, I encourage you, where you have doubts, to consult with your family physician as there is a lot of misinformation in circulation. The administration and staff remain committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment for all our students and will continue to provide support where possible.
Kind regards,
Mark Smith
Headmaster
