Munro College Wins Top UNAJ Award
In the 2021 virtual staging of the local United Nations Model Assembly, organized by the United Nations Association of Jamaica, Munro College was awarded the trophy for second place. In addition, Munronian Ajae Clacken, received the award for Best Speaker.
As a requirement of the annual assembly, delegations comprising of high school students, are required to represent the interests of a chosen nation state, based on a given moot. This year, the delegation from Munro College represented Albania, with great diplomacy. The delegations which participated in the 2021 staging of the model assembly presented speeches based on the following moot.
” COVID 19 has changed the operations of everyday life: how we work, attend school, socialize, do business, visit family, travel and generally interact with each other. Global governments the world over and of United Nations Member Countries have been doing a balancing act between health, welfare and economic prosperity. A balancing act, many feared would impact citizens’ constitutional rights of freedom of movement and survival. A balancing act that has the potential to lead many citizens ending up poorer than they were before the pandemic, if not managed properly. Governments cannot do it alone; and therefore, will require many different categories of partnerships to achieve the best outcomes for its citizens…
Be it resolved that, “member states of the United Nations should enact laws during this pandemic to protect its citizens’ health, wealth and well-being; and to ensure that the partnerships entered into will further enhance the growth and development of the country and its people overall.”
The Munro College United Nations Club heartily congratulates this year’s delegation for a job well done.
