Re: Reopening Arrangements for the Easter Term – Academic Year 2021-2022
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As we celebrate during this festive season, I trust that you are all doing well and taking the necessary precautions to keep safe. This serves to update you regarding our plans for the upcoming school term in January 2022. I understand how anxious you must be for school to return to normal. However, we must be guided by the Ministry of Health and Wellness, and by the directives from the Ministry of Education, Youth and Information.
During the past weeks we engaged our Fifth and Sixth Form students in face-to-face sessions which proved to be quite beneficial in preparation for the upcoming external examinations. We are looking forward to engaging the rest of the school population in the coming term. The government has indicated a willingness to permit secondary institutions to reopen for face-to-face classes, once sixty-five percent (65%) of the student population has been vaccinated, and the school has received approval from the Ministry of Health and Wellness. We are happy to report that Munro College has again passed the Health and Safety inspection, and will once again accommodate our students in the preferred face-to-face mode. However, we require your cooperation in meeting the sixty-five percent (65%) vaccination threshold needed to reopen. To this end, we are specifically requesting that you submit a copy of your son’s vaccination card as we are required to provide the evidence that we have achieved the required vaccination rate.
A brief Parent Meeting will be held on Monday, December 20, 2021 at 6:00 p.m., and therefore, we are kindly requesting your participation. The Zoom link will be sent out shortly.
Please note the following updates:
- The Easter Term will now begin on Monday, January 10, 2021.
- All students from the respective year groups are required to attend the orientation sessions as indicated below. This activity is mandatory as critical information will be shared.
- Monday, January 10, 2022 – 1st and 2nd Forms
- Tuesday, January 11, 2022 – 3rd and 4th Forms
- Wednesday, January 12, 2022 – 5th and 6th Forms
- Classes will begin on Thursday, January 13, 2022 using a rotational model. You will be further informed on this approach.
- As mentioned earlier, before we can re-open, we are required to provide proof of students’ vaccination status. Therefore, we ask that your son’s/ward’s vaccination card be scanned or pictures of both sides taken and uploaded to https://forms.gle/uhdYztmqsHrLnHwH9 . This must be done immediately. (Note: The Google Form only accepts users of the Munro College organization. On this basis, your son/ward will need to access the form using his Munro College email account).
- Parents/Guardians who chose to pay the year’s school expenses/fee in two instalments, please be reminded that the second instalment of $14,250 (1st – 5th Form students) or $37,750 (6th Form students), is to be paid by January 5, 2021.
- If your son/ward is a boarder in Forms 1 – 4 and the boarding fee was previously paid, then you will not be required to make payment for the upcoming Easter Term. However, if a balance remains on your son’s account, payment is due by January 5, 2021. If your son/ward is a Fifth or Sixth Form boarder, please contact the administrative office to verify the balance due by calling 876-545-8577 or email powell@munrocollege.edu.jm
Reminder: You can pay your school fee and boarding fee using (1) the Renweb’s Honorepay platform or (2) at a Lasco Financial Services outlet. (In the latter case, ensure that your son’s name is provided to the agent for the correct posting of fees.) If you choose the traditional payment method using the online RTGS transfer method, note account details: NCB (Acc. # 891008449), proof of payment MUST be uploaded and sent to munro.fees@yahoo.com or orlean.powell@munrocollege.edu.jm and should also be retained for on campus registration when school reopens in January 2022.
- All students are required to have an up-to-date Munro College Identification Card (ID), that will not expire before the end of the academic year. The photographs for the IDs will be taken in January. The cost of the IDs, for those who have not paid as yet, is $900 and this is to be paid at the Administrative Office during the first week of the Easter term.
Please counsel your sons about their dress/uniform, hair, speech and their general behaviour and deportment. The school will take a zero-tolerance approach to unkempt hair or ‘high hair’ with faded sides. (Hair must be low cut and be on one level in accordance with the school’s Grooming Policy.)
We thank you for your continued support and remain committed to helping your son realize his full potential, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. Munro College remains dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for all our students and we look forward to working with you throughout this academic year. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.
Kind regards,
Mark Smith
